US senators call for greater protection of Christians, minorities in Iraq

In a dramatic expression of solidarity with the poor and suffering, 17 US senators wrote a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry.

Voices of anguish are being heard! The US government—though its bombing raids on the Islamic State (or ISIL, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) saved Iraqi refugee Christians and their Kurdish hosts from certain doom—has been slow in openly condemning the persecution of Chaldean and Syriac faithful of Iraq; and there has been absolutely no mention of guaranteeing their safety in the long term—let alone their ability to return to the homes and lands from which they were mercilessly chased.

In a dramatic expression of solidarity with the poor and suffering, 17 US senators wrote a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry, urging the US government “to do more to protect vulnerable minorities facing persecution” in northern Iraq.

Credit goes to all Chaldea, Assyrian, and Syriac organizations in the US, including the Iraqi Christians Advocacy and Empowerment Institute (ICEA), an organization run by Chaldeans in the US who are engaged in lobbying efforts as well as the hands-on provision of relief in the trenches.
