The Missionaries of Faith in India Say Thank You for Their Car
"I thank you most sincerely on behalf of my new and poor province for this important and generous support.” These are the words of Father Prabhakar Vangala, who wrote to express his heartfelt thanks to ACN for the vehicle that was supplied through the generosity of our benefactors.
Father Vangala is the Provincial Superior of the newly established province of Saint Peter – established only last year – of the Missionaries of Faith. This priestly congregation, founded in 1982 in Italy as the Missionari della Fede, has been active in India since 1989. The new province of Saint Peter currently has 45 priests, two deacons and 45 seminarians, who minister to 15 mission parishes in nine different dioceses.
Soon some of these priests will be going to the state of Orissa, where between Christmas 2007 and August 2008 Hindu fanatics engaged in violent atrocities against Christians – as a result of which 100 people were killed, 50,000 Christians were forced to flee their homes and 5,000 houses destroyed, as well as numerous churches and other Church properties. "We are willing to die and be killed for the sake of the Kingdom of God," Father Vangala writes.
Thanks to the generosity of our benefactors, ACN was able to give $14,700 for this vehicle, so that the priests of the congregation can travel the often long distances necessary to reach some of the remote mission outposts. These priests specialize in working in places where few others would voluntarily venture – in the poorest and remotest regions, where missionary work is difficult and often dangerous.
All this they do for the love of God and in complete trust in divine providence. And now, thanks to the support of our benefactors, it is now just a little easier for them to fulfil this mission. May God reward you all for your help!
