Extend a Provincial House for Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará in Ukraine
The Sisters devote themselves to pastoral work, giving catechetical and religious instruction, and counseling young people, while also caring for orphans, elderly people and the sick.
The religious congregation of the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará – or Servidoras for short – was founded in Argentina in 1989. It now has more than 1,000 Sisters working in more than 30 different countries on all five continents. The ever-growing number of their new vocations undergo their training in no fewer than 26 novice houses around the world. The Sisters devote themselves to pastoral work, giving catechetical and religious instruction, organizing retreat days and helping and counseling young people in their search for a vocation. At the same time they also care for orphans, elderly people and the sick.
The Servidoras also have communities working in Ukraine, and for the past four years their provincial house has been in the city of Ivano-Frankivsk. But the building itself is in need of renovation and must also be adapted to the requirements of the congregation.
ACN has already helped with $20,600 for the extension and renovation work to date, but now the Sisters have turned to us again for help. The building is also used as a retreat center, not only for the Sisters of the congregation, who come here from all over Ukraine, but also for the laity. At the same time it is a center for the members of the Third Order of the congregation, and other people come here privately and stay as guests at the convent. In addition to this, it is a place where any religious Sisters who are in need of rest and recuperation, or indeed medical care, can come and spend some time.
Given all the ways the building is used, it needs to have additional rooms added, as well as toilets and showers. The Sisters are proposing to extend the attic rooms in order to be able to provide suitable accommodation there. We have promised an additional $11,400.
Will you give to help these Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará extend their provincial house so they can better serve the faithful in Ukraine? We are sure they will gratefully remember you in their prayers.
