Help for the Training of 45 Future Priests in Colombia
Monday, August 29, 2016
Can you help us fund the training of these future priests in Colombia? You can be sure that all the seminarians in Cúcuma regularly pray for all the generous benefactors who have helped them on their journey to the priesthood.
“We thank the Lord
for the fact that during this time he has blessed us with numerous vocations,
and also with individuals and associations that have helped us both spiritually
and materially.”
These were the words of Father José Abel Sierra Parra in a
letter to ACN. Father Parra is rector of a seminary in the Diocese of Cúcuta in
the far northeast of Colombia, on the frontier with Venezuela. This year there
has been a special reason for joy, since the local diocesan seminary is
celebrating the 30th anniversary of its founding.
Currently there are
49 young men in the seminary training to serve as priests at the altar of the
Lord. Most of them are from poor families who have almost no material means to
help their sons on this path. This is why the seminary needs outside help to cover
the cost of training these future priests.
It is also the
heartfelt wish of the new Bishop, Victor Manuel Ochoa Cadavid, that these young
men be supported and helped in their vocation. He knows the seminary very well
and wants to promote priestly vocations in his diocese even more than before.
Bishop Cadavid has
turned to ACN, asking us to help support the training of his seminarians, and
we have promised him $13,800 for this year, so that no priestly vocation need
be lost simply for lack of money.
Can you help us keep
this promise to help fund the training of these future priests in Colombia? You
can be sure that all the seminarians in Cúcuma regularly pray for all the
generous benefactors who have helped them on their journey to the priesthood.
