A Chapel for a Parish in Cuba

Success Story

The Parish of Tamarindo in central Cuba serves some 3,700 parishioners, many of whom are sincerely committed Catholics. Until recently the life of the parish revolved mainly around the houses of individual parishioners, since the old chapel – the only one available to the community – was in a very dilapidated state and eventually had to be demolished. A new church was urgently needed, but the Diocese of Ciego de Avila, to which it belongs, is very poor and was unable to help. It is barely able to maintain its existing chapels and churches – so the idea of a new church, however modest, seemed destined to remain an unfulfilled dream. Throughout Cuba the Church is poor, just like the people. As a result, the donations that do come in, though given with love, are just not enough to fund such projects.

The parish priest turned to ACN for help. Thanks to the generosity of our benefactors, we did not have to disappoint the faithful of Tamarindo but were able to give $25,500.

By now the new chapel, dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima, has already been consecrated. It is simple and modest, but beautiful. The Catholic faithful of Tamarindo are overjoyed to have their own fitting place of worship at last.

Our heartfelt thanks, together with theirs, to all of you who made it possible for this dream to become reality.
