About Aid to the Church in Need and Open Your Heart, Share His Light: World Youth Day 2016
Aid to the Church in Need is an international charity under the guidance of the Holy Father. Our mission is to serve the suffering and persecuted Church, and to help keep the Faith alive.
Founded in 1947 by Father Werenfried van Stratton to help post-World War II refugees, the organization now funds pastoral projects in many countries around the world. In the United States, our office is located in New York, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Recognized throughout his life for his unstinting efforts on behalf of the suffering and persecuted, Father Werenfried was named an “An Outstanding Apostle of Charity” by His Holiness John Paul II. Visit us at www.churchinneed.org for more information about our organization.
Share His Light: World Youth Day 2016: In order to help youth across the United States on their journey of Faith, Aid to the Church in Need is assisting U.S. parishes in their fundraising efforts to send their young parishioners to World Youth Day 2016, in Poland. In collaboration with U.S. parishes, Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) has launched a World Youth Day project called Open Your Heart, Share His Light to support parishes in their fundraising efforts for World Youth Day 2016. Open Your Heart, Share His Light supports parishes via an online fundraising tool that enables WYD participating parishes to fundraise for themselves and cover their WYD travel expenses by using online and social media tools, at no cost to them.
Donors' Match: When you make a gift to Open Your Heart, Share His Light: World Youth Day 2016, your donation will be matched dollar for dollar (up to a total of $100,000) and these funds will be dedicated to projects close to the Holy Father's heart: Assistance to persecuted and suffering youth and refugees in war-torn Syria.
With the emergence of ISIS, the threat to Christianity in Syria and other Middle Eastern countries has never been greater. This ruthless army of terrorists took the entire world virtually by surprise. The Syrian conflict sparked the exodus of almost a third of the country’s Christian population of 1.8 million, the majority of whom are currently stranded in Lebanon. Refugee women, children and men are in desperate need of food, shelter, water, and medicine. Extremist and violent Islamists have stripped them of all their belongings. They have been left with nothing.
Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) is inviting all faithful to join in prayer and in fundraising for the humanitarian crisis in Iraq and Syria. To date, Aid to the Church in Need donors have given over $3.5 million in aid to the suffering Church and her faithful in the Middle East. Our help is ongoing as the crisis continues.
