Dear Friends,
Hello from Rome! I am glad to be running again this year in a modest venture to support the suffering members of the Church in the Middle East. It was a wonderful experience last year and one of the great graces was witnessing how many people wanted to help contribute to the cause we were running and praying for. After a few conversations with Aid to the Church in Need, I was very happy when they proposed this project to support 167 families with food packages. If you take a look at the "team page" you will find a more specific description of the project.
On the one hand, the project is distressing because it means that the situation in Iraq remains dire: I was expecting (or hoping) for a proposal which was more at the level of infrastructure: helping out one of the schools, home improvements, etc. Continued food handouts means that there are still many families in Iraq, and in Erbil specifically, who are living far from home and without food security. On the other hand, this request is an opportunity to very concretely fulfill the Lord's command to feed the hungry: a simple corporal work of mercy.
I hope that you will consider joining us in this endeavor: above all by prayer, and perhaps materially if you are able. The Church, in these days of Lent, is preparing for the grace which comes from our faith that Christ arose from the dead on Easter Sunday. My prayer is that this project, as a works of charity, will through our prayer and sacrifice serve as a witness to the HOPE which is ours as Christians, and in a particular way communicate that hope to those who are very much need of this hope over in Iraq.
A great way to join us in spirit would be to say a prayer before you go out on a jog! Join us in asking for Saint Paul's intercession:
"For myself, I set no store by life; all I want is to finish the race, and complete the task which the Lord Jesus assigned to me, that of bearing testimony to the gospel of God's grace" (Acts 20:24)
Thank you for your consideration and be assured of my prayers for you as well during this endeavor!
Sincerely,
Will Nyce
P. S. Every dollar you give (up to $500,000) will be matched by a generous anonymous donor to Aid to the Church in Need and will be used to support the suffering and persecuted Church in Iraq and Syria.
